Good Thoughts, Undelivered, Mean Squat...

These words are from Ken Blanchard, Ph.D., co-author of "The One Minute Manager." Feedback is powerful, but only if it's delivered.

When was the last time you caught someone doing something right? And let them know? Most people receive only silence when they are doing their jobs well. Let them know they're doing okay.

It is difficult for some of us to acknowledge others, yet if we take the time and go through the initial discomfort, we can reap the benefits of such positive reinforcement: increased self-esteem, morale, and productivity.

Dr. Blanchard also suggests giving positive feedback when people do things approximately right, through every stage of skill development. None of us starts out doing a task perfectly. Give him/her sincere, positive feedback on the parts of the task which were done well before pointing out what needs to be done differently. This will bolster self-confidence and enable him/her to listen to negatives more easily.

To whom do you owe some positive feedback? Deliver it today.
