A Personal Note
I have not sent an update in awhile, so you may have forgotten that I promised I'd stay in touch!
In January, I spent 2 weeks in Myanmar with my Together We Can Change the World group, visiting our projects and doing seminars. We even visited a monk-run school where they'd never allowed foreigners. It was wonderful to see the 400 kids they feed, house and educate. Afterwards, I stopped in Tokyo and enjoyed a 3-day urban bike tour.
From March through May, I embarked on an 8--week, 6-country odyssey, conducting 15 speeches/seminars. It started with a 2-day safari at a private South African lodge, then to Cape Town for 3 speeches. I then went to Australia for 7 speeches in 5 cities, plus some snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. I crossed over to New Zealand for 10 days in 3 cities.
I then joined our Together We Can Change the World team in Bangkok where we gave an all-day seminar and visited some of our projects before going to Siem Reap and Chiang Mai for much of the same. I finished with 3 days in Hong Kong for one talk.
When I returned home, I turned my attention to creating some new live and virtual seminars, as well as adding a new venture to my offerings. I've detailed them below. Please let me know if you'd like to discuss how we could partner on a project.
Announcing Leadership USA-Silicon Valley
Starting this Fall, if you are a leader (or emerging leader) in Silicon Valley or the South Bay, I invite you to participate in monthly leadership workshops i'm hosting as part of my new role as Director of Leadership USA-Silicon Valley (LUSA-SV). Each month, we'll provide high-quality, thought-leading workshop presenters on an element of leadership -- upcoming session topics are decided by the members of LUSA-SV.
I'm partnering with the founder of LUSA, a long-term colleague, to add LUSA-SV to my work as management consultant, speaker and author. This venture allows me to bring you highly respected workshop presenters in a forum where you will interact with other Silicon Valley leaders to expand your thinking, hone your skills, and get others' perspectives on key issues. You'll have the opportunity to make commitments to try new ideas and follow up support to ensure you act on implementing the concepts. By attending regularly, you'll create a new brain trust of smart people outside your industry to cross-pollinate best practices.
If you'd like to be kept apprised of the programs offered and membership benefits, please respond to this email and put LUSA in the subject line. I hope you'll join me in this exciting new opportunity to become an even more effective leader.
New "Work. Play. Give." Presentation
People they have asked me to share my learnings from my work abroad. So I've created a new program called "Work. Play. Give. -- Creating a Thriving Workplace." It whittles down my life philosophy into these three areas which when combined, create an awesome workplace and life. In each of the three sections, I give examples from my clients, colleagues and those I've met in my travels. I make the presentation interactive, whether it's a 45-minute keynote, or a half-day workshop. My concepts were featured in a Forbes.com article.
Details on what you'll get in this presentation.
"Making a Difference at 95" Article
Most of the people I know want to make a contribution to others' lives. They are vigilant around how they can be helpful to others, whether that's a compassionate ear when someone is having a rough time, volunteering for hours to help others in need, or raising money for good causes.
At some point in our lives, many people's commitment to contribution can fade, as other priorities take precedent, whether that's time with family or job, hobbies, or failing health.
Understand how one 95-year-old's focus on contribution inspired others.

"Save Time by Modifying Your Conversational Style" Article
I've noticed a lot of people - maybe 90% - aren't very conscious of their conversational habits. The most common habit I've noticed is no awareness of the relevance of what the speaker is saying to their conversational partner.
I began to wonder how much more productive we'd be if we focused our comments on only those of importance to our listeners. Granted, we can't always know what the other would find important, and sometimes, with close friends and family, we want to share something that is significant to us as a way of sharing ourselves, but may only be interesting to our loved one because they care about us.
But let's focus on workplace conversations.
Read more on how you can be more conscious of your part of conversations to save yourself and others time.
